NGE-TFT conducted a geotechnical evaluation of the site to characterize subsurface conditions (which included ice-rich permafrost) and develop foundation recommendations for the proposed structure. As part of the founcation design effort, NGE-TFT conducted a transient thermal analysis to model the effect that the proposed building could have on the existing permafrost and to evaluate the potential effectiveness of proposed foundation refrigeration systems and insulation in preserving the existing permafrost beneath and adjacent to the proposed structure.
